DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA ACTIVIDAD REALIZADA

La Carpintería de Alejandro fue fundada en A Pontenova en 1951 por Alejandro Martínez Rancaño con el objetivo de realizar todo tipo de trabajos de carpintería y ebanistería. Está actualmente inscrita como Taller Artesanal nº 4681 en el Registro general de artesanía de Galicia. Posee también Carta de artesano reconocido por la Xunta de Galicia, con el nº 3254.Siguiendo con la tradición, su principal dedicación sigue siendo a la carpintería de obra, tanto interior como exterior, actividad que se vio incrementada por el auge cobrado por el turismo rural en esa zona de la provincia de Lugo.Para interiores realizan puertas, ventanas, contraventanas, tarimas, cubiertas, falsos techos, escaleras, pasamanos y cualesquiera otros elementos precisos para el amueblamiento de la casa. En el exterior: portalones, puertas de entrada, ventanales, balcones, galerías, cobertizos, pérgolas, cancillas de entrada o cierres de fincas. En los últimos tiempos, con el aumento de la demanda de restauración de hórreos, cabazos y cobertizos, tan presentes en Lugo, han desarrollado también una significativa labor en este campo. Llevan a cabo encuentros y uniones tradicionales en carpintería: ensambles de cercos en caja, a media madera, cola de milano, plafones rebatidos a una o dos caras, maderas machihembradas con moldura en la junta…La zona del norte de la provincia lucense, donde se localiza, cuenta con muchos y buenos aserraderos, por lo que utilizan principalmente las maderas procedentes de ellos: castaño, roble, pino gallego y nogal son los más utilizados. La madera se somete a un proceso de secado natural, que garantiza la estabilidad y seguridad del trabajo realizado.El proceso de elaboración se realiza con técnicas tradicionales, aunque se introduce maquinaria que permite realizarlos con mayor precisión y rapidez. La carpintería hecha a mano se diferencia por el acabado y la calidad que se persigue, así como por la correcta adaptación a las necesidades de cada trabajo. Por otra parte, la sierra de cinta permite cortar los tablones a la medida deseada, la cepilladora planificar la madera, el regrueso producir piezas del mismo tamaño, la escuadradora, el tupí espigadora se utiliza para hacer plafones, molduras y todo tipo de ensambles, el bedano para hacer las cajas y la lijadora calibradora para conseguir un perfecto acabado.

APRENDIZAJE

El oficio se ha transmitido como herencia familiar. Francisco empezó en el año 1978 de la mano de su padre, fundador del taller en el año 1951, en A Pontenova. Su aprendizaje se produjo por la observación de cómo lo hacía el maestro y siguiendo minuciosamente sus instrucciones, hasta que poco a poco pudo alcanzar la experiencia que requiere esta categoría profesional.

DOCENCIA

El período de aprendizaje de esta profesión oscila de dos a tres años, dependiendo de la pericia del alumno y del tiempo que puede dedicar al aprendizaje. En su etapa como profesional, cuatro han sido los aprendices que se han formado bajo su tutela en esta carpintería. Tres de ellos son hoy en día buenos profesionales que están ejerciendo este oficio.
