DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA ACTIVIDAD REALIZADA

Forja Zapata es una empresa familiar iniciada por Pedro Zapata, nacido en 1941 en
Arizcun, Navarra. Inició su propio taller de forja y enseñó a sus hijos el oficio, siendo ellos: Fernando, Xabier y Josune, quienes continúan con el taller en el arte de la forja.El tipo de trabajo que realizan los hermanos Zapata es muy variado, fabricando elementos y
piezas de exterior para edificios, como, por ejemplo, verjas o rejerías para cubrir paredes, ventanas, puertas, portillos, correderas o farolas de calle. Así como objetos de menor escala, como letreros o mobiliario doméstico: cabeceros de cama, sillas, mesas, lámparas, relojes,
esculturas, ceniceros, candelabros o piezas de fogones. También realizan herrajes para mobiliario, puertas y ventanas de madera.Implicados con la cultura tradicional de la región de Navarra, trabajan en piezas para instrumentos tradicionales como xistus, gaitas o txalapartas, e incluso pianos o trompetas, así como para deportes rurales, txingas, corredores, aizkolaris etc.Las piezas de hierro se elaboran calentándolas en la fragua y martilleándolas en el yunque hasta lograr las formas deseadas. Una vez conseguidas, se unen unas con otras a base de remaches o soldaduras hasta completar la pieza. Los materiales utilizados son el hierro y el carbón. Las herramientas y máquinas: el martillo, el yunque, la tenaza y la soldadora. Estas herramientas y máquinas son las que han existido desde hace muchos años, y son las que mantienen y continúan utilizando en este taller.

APRENDIZAJE

Pedro Zapata empezó a conocer el oficio con 14 años, como aprendiz con el maestro herrero Juan Bautista Aguerre, con quien trabajó hasta los 26 años en su herrería de Erratzu.Fernando y Xabier se han educado académicamente en la electricidad; fontanería, gas y calefacción respectivamente; pero ambos han recibido de su padre el conocimiento del oficio de herrero, aprendiendo con él en el taller las diferentes técnicas que siguen aplicando hoy en su día a día.
