DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA ACTIVIDAD REALIZADA

Francisco es maestro artesano del mármol. Trabaja desde la idea que le presenta el cliente para realizar cada pieza. Alterna herramientas tradicionales como cinceles, punteros o gradinas, para rebajar el volumen de piedra, con discos de diamante y puntas de diamante, para el caso de mármoles. Elabora elementos arquitectónicos tales como capiteles, fustes, balaustradas, dinteles, arcos y escultura, entre otras.En cuanto al proceso de trabajo, en ocasiones va a cantera a elegir la piedra, y otras veces la recibe directamente del cliente, dependiendo de las demandas de éste. Trabaja todo tipo de mármoles y piedras, a excepción del granito.Parte de una serie de dibujos iniciales, que poco a poco va pasando a la piedra, pues se trata fundamentalmente de un trabajo muy visual. En caso de tratarse de le copia de una pieza a partir de una existente o de fotos, adapta ésta a las medidas requeridas en la piedra y la repite por un sistema de puntos, es decir, a partir de un punto fijo de referencia va trasladando todas las medidas a la nueva pieza.

APRENDIZAJE

Desde muy pequeño Francisco estuvo muy vinculado a las canteras, ya que trabajó como arriero llevando comida y bebida a los canteros mientras éstos trabajaban. Aprendió el oficio muy joven, con 13 años, en un taller pionero de artesanía del mármol en la época en la que se trabajaba con las manos y las máquinas aún no habían llegado. Continuó muchos años en ese negocio, hasta que decidió seguir creciendo por su cuenta y establecer su propio taller, el cual siempre está abierto a cualquier persona que tenga interés en conocer el oficio y el mármol de Macael.

Fundamentalmente trabajos para clientes privados como la Escultura del Cantero en una fábrica de Cantoria, Almería; esculturas en Vícar, Almería; o el Monumento a los emigrantes, en Senés, Almería.
