DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA ACTIVIDAD REALIZADA

Empresa familiar que trabaja en el Oficio del Esparto, desde su recogida hasta la elaboración del producto: alfombras, paños para forrar paredes, zócalos, lámparas, cuadros, repisas, maceteros, persianas o esteras, toldos. Todos estos productos se realizan en diferentes formas y medidas y de manera totalmente artesanal. El proceso comienza con la recolección del esparto en el monte entre los meses de julio y agosto. La herramienta empleada es la «cogedera» (también llamada «la talisa», «manil», «palico», etc), que es un especie de clavo de acero o pedazo de madera de 20-30 cm longitud por 2 a 3 cm de diámetro.
El esparto obtenido se limpia para poder hacer las pleitas, que son las tiras de esparto trenzado que luego se utilizan utilizar para formar el producto que se vayan a elaborar. Los paños de esparto se realizan uniendo esas tiras de pleitas, cosiéndolas con agujas hechas por los propios artesanos con huesos o algún metal. Se utiliza hilo de sisal o pita de dos cabos.
Una vez formado el paño, con las medidas precisas, se decora y refuerza con unas tiras de pleita en forma de cruz, cosido con hilo de sisal de 3 cabos. Para la elaboración de persianas, se coloca un listón de madera tratada, de 7cm x 4 cm, que se sujeta al paño de esparto con grapas y se forra en todo su perímetro con una tira de pleita de esparto que cosemos con hilo sisal de 3 cabos. En esta tabla se colocan los cáncamos para poder colgar la persiana y una polea o dos, dependiendo de las dimensiones de ésta, y que se utilizará para poder recoger la persiana junto con la cuerda de cáñamo de 6 mm. En la parte inferior de la persiana se pone un listón de madera de 5 cm x 1,5 cm para dar más firmeza y consistencia, y se sujeta al paño de esparto con grapas que se forran en su perímetro con pleita de esparto, cosiéndolo con hilo sisal de tres cabos.
Las persianas de esparto se pueden elaborar de diferentes medidas y formas; se pueden montar en corredera, en forma de arco de medio punto, cuadradas, rectangulares, etc. En el caso de las lámparas, se hará primero la estructura con varilla de acero, de diferentes diámetros, y se sujeta el paño de esparto, una vez formado, cosiéndolo con hilo de cáñamo de pequeño grosor. La elaboración de alfombras o reores, sigue el mismo procedimiento que los paños de esparto, adaptándose a las medidas que se necesiten. Si es redonda, se le va dando forma a la pleita de esparto, al mismo tiempo que se va cosiendo. Para las repisas, se utiliza una madera de las dimensiones necesarias y se forra cosiéndole las tiras o paños de esparto. Los paños o toldos de esparto llevan en sus esquinas unas argollas, elaboradas de esparto, para poder colgarlos.
