DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA ACTIVIDAD REALIZADA

La empresa destaca en la realización de tejas de diferentes tamaños y formas, según se necesiten, así como la realización de los remates de los tejados.Las técnicas utilizadas son las tradicionales, totalmente manuales. Como actualización en el proceso de producción, han introducido el horno eléctrico a la hora de cocer las piezas, lo que se traduce en una mayor precisión y uniformidad de cochura.Las fases del proceso de fabricación de una teja son las siguientes: primero se obtiene el barro de una cantera. Una vez “desajelado” (tras quitarle las impurezas), se busca su estado óptimo de dureza para poder realizar la pieza deseada. A mayor tamaño y curvatura de la pieza, se precisa un menor grado de humedad. Una vez se tiene el barro listo y amasado, se echa un poco de limo o ceniza en la mesa de trabajo y se extiende el barro sobre la graílla. Una vez hecho esto, se retira el sobrante con la mástara y, con sumo cuidado, se pone el galápago a ras de la mesa y se deja caer la torta para que coja la forma de la teja. Después, se deposita en el suelo con cuidado y se deja secar, cuidando de que no pierda la forma. Una vez seca, se cuece en el horno. Si se desea esmaltarla, se vidria con el esmalte adecuado y se vuelve a cocer. Terminado este proceso, ya se tiene la teja lista para ser colocada.

Su aprendizaje ha sido prácticamente autodidacta, observando el trabajo de los mayores.
TRABAJOS DESTACADOS
Desde los años 80 han realizado diferentes trabajos para diferentes puntos de la geografía granadina. El más destacado de todos fue la realización de las tejas y remates de las cubiertas de la Iglesia de San Juan de Dios de Granada, a mediados de los años 90, cuando se renovó totalmente la cubierta. Han hecho también diversos trabajos para la Basílica de la Virgen de las Angustias, el Monasterio de San Jerónimo y la Alhambra (sobre todo ladrillos). Los trabajos se los encargan normalmente las empresas que se dedican a la restauración del monumento.
