DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA ACTIVIDAD REALIZADA

Los tipos de trabajo que realiza Antonio son variados, por conocimiento y por necesidad del oficio. Principalmente trabaja la piedra caliza de Colmenar de Oreja, por sus características y su calidad, aunque en ocasiones ha utilizado otras calizas, areniscas y mármoles, y nunca el granito.Elabora desde careados para mampostería hechos a una cara con el martillo y adoquines hechos a maceta, hasta trabajos que más próximos a la escultura, pasando por revestimientos de fachadas, decoración de interiores, patios, rehabilitaciones, y elementos decorativos y arquitectónicos, como pórticos, fachadas, arcos, fuentes, columnas, pilas, escudos, losetas, bordillos, adoquines, brocales de pozos, recercados de ventanas, aleros, etc.Ha realizado intervenciones en cuevas, algunas en poblaciones de la zona, pero generalmente en Colmenar, situadas en casas particulares o en bodegas. El fin de estas intervenciones es restaurarlas, afianzar estructuras o ampliar las mismas. También asesora en la extracción de bloques de piedra, en diferentes escenarios.Los procesos a seguir dependen del trabajo a realizar. Lo que más ha cambiado es la extracción y despiece de la piedra. Ahora ya no se hacen de forma manual, sino que se extrae con maquinaría pesada y voladura de dinamita, para abaratar costes y reducir tiempos. Antonio asesora en la identificación de la veta que se extrae, estudiando la calidad de la misma, ya que cada veta tiene unas características y cada trabajo requiere unas u otras.La transformación de los bloques de piedra, con diferentes despieces, se hace hoy en talleres de corte, adelantando así el trabajo y teóricamente abaratando el producto final. Es a partir de este momento donde se empieza a dar forma y textura a los diferentes formatos de piedra. La manera de trabajarlos varía según se busque lograr unos acabados más tradicionales o más innovadores, haciendo a su vez una constante labor de investigación para sacar al mercado diferentes propuestas que puedan dar respuesta a lo que éste demanda.Dependiendo del uso final de la pieza se utilizan unas herramientas u otras.
En el caso de restauraciones, rehabilitaciones o cantería tradicional se emplean herramientas como macetas, gradinas, cinceles/uñetas, campana, trinchante, escafilador, cuñas, martillo, bujarda o trinchante. Para los nuevos acabados se hace uso de herramientas eléctricas, neumáticas como martillo neumático, abujardadora eléctrica, bailarín, cizalla eléctrica para hacer careado y adoquín. En estos casos se tiende a buscar la rapidez para obtener mayor rentabilidad económica, perdiéndose de esta forma los procesos, aunque por supuesto se ha facilitado el trabajo de elaboración.

APRENDIZAJE

Heredero del conocimiento de sus antepasados, es cantero de cuarta generación, y último de la familia en activo como tal. Su padre y sus tíos componían la última cuadrilla en las canteras de Colmenar de Oreja. Extraían la piedra de manera artesanal, como se había hecho en los últimos siglos, y la trabajaban después del mismo modo. En palabras de Antonio: “lo que yo sé y soy al respecto se lo debo a ellos.”
TRABAJOS DESTACADOS
Prácticamente en su totalidad sus trabajos se han dirigido a la obra privada, y no tiene permiso para hacerlos públicos, pero han sido realizados para ciudades y poblaciones como Madrid, Toledo, Soria, Brihuega, Consuegra, Alcalá de Henares, Pastrana, Chinchón, Aranjuez, Valdemoro, La Guardia…así como algunos pequeños trabajos para el extranjero.
