APRENDIZAJE

Manuel Prieto tuvo la suerte de aprender de manera práctica de la mano de auténticos profesionales del oficio de la pizarra y la madera, ahora ya jubilados, que se dedicaban con pasión a las técnicas tradicionales de colocación (en contra de la corriente de aquellos tiempos, que fue la introducción de la pizarra en pequeños formatos regulares colocada con gancho…). Por aquellos tiempos fueron tachados de locos por no apuntarse a la nueva moda, pero el tiempo les dio la razón: sus obras siguen en pie como el primer día mientras que la pizarra moderna ha demostrado acortar el ciclo de vida de la cubierta hasta límites insospechados.Si ha de destacar una empresa con la que ha intervenido en gran cantidad de rehabilitaciones de importancia, se queda con la ya también extinta «Lousados Castor».Recientemente, Manuel se presentó con éxito a las convocatorias de la Xunta para las competencias profesionales, superando todas las pruebas de los módulos relacionados con las cubiertas inclinadas. Además es diplomado en marketing y publicidad, postgrado en organización industrial, técnico intermedio en prevención de riesgos laborales y técnico en mantenimiento industrial.
TRABAJOS DESTACADOS
Entre sus trabajos destacan la restauración del hórreo de Navia De Suarna, porque engloba todas las facetas a las que se dedica con pasión (piedra y madera) y la cubierta de la Iglesia de Santa María en Sarria (por la dificultad de la parte redonda).También ha participado a lo largo de su vida profesional en otras rehabilitaciones de edificios históricos de importancia como son: la Iglesia de San Andrés de Ponferrada, la Catedral de Lugo, la Iglesia del Monasterio de Samos, el Seminario de Mondoñedo, la Iglesia de Santa María de Viveiro, el Monasterio de La Magdalena en Sarria…Son dignos de mención otros trabajos en los que ha rescatado con éxito materiales utilizados en el pasado para las cubiertas en Galicia (como la piedra típica gallega, piedra de Buratai o filita multicolor), en el hórreo de Navia ya mencionado o en la restauración de las bodegas de la Millara en Lugo, por poner un ejemplo.
