DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA ACTIVIDAD REALIZADA

Obelisco es una empresa especializada en la elaboración elementos de piedra. Realiza cualquier tipo de ornamentación y trabajos en piedra, tales como: chimeneas u hogares, barbacoas, columnas, recercados, sillerías, pavimentos, cruceiros, fuentes, barrotes, balaustradas… y trabajos especiales de escultura.El material que emplean es la piedra natural, como el mármol, pero sobre todo el granito del país, en diferentes tonalidades y durezas (Gris Mondariz, Rosa Porriño…).En cuanto al proceso de trabajo que siguen, en primer lugar transforman los bloques de granito, extraídos directamente de las canteras, con sierras cortadoras. Con las tablas que salen de dichos bloques hacen diferentes trabajos. La elaboración primaria la realizan con maquinaria industrial para agilizar los trabajos y evitar lesiones, pero los acabados son manuales (labrado, abujardado, diseño…). El remate manual es o bien con martillo neumático, cincel y maceta, o bien con cualquier herramienta manual de cantero.

APRENDIZAJE

Pedro de la Fuente trabaja en este oficio por tradición familiar desde hace 20 años. Estudió en la Escuela de Canteros de Pontevedra y tras 5 años obtuvo el título de Maestro Cantero.
