DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA ACTIVIDAD REALIZADA

Proceso de elaboración y de fabricación de las piezas:La materia prima (arcilla) la extraen del picado de las cuevas, seleccionando la mejor arcilla, que es de color azul anaranjado, porque es la más fuerte. Dependiendo de la pieza que se quiera fabricar, se mezclará con otra más débil.La echan en balsas y se cubre de agua. Para el amasado se pica con un pico manualmente, se saca de la balsa, y se pisa para conseguir la homogeneidad de toda la arcilla. Se le dan dos o tres vueltas de pisado y se tapa para que fermente. Al día siguiente se trabaja para ladrillos, losas y tejas.Los utensilios para las piezas son: un molde de madera para el ladrillo de dos unidades, un cuadrado para la losa, de distinta medida, y, para la teja, un muerto o base de madera, una gradilla para hacer la lámina de barro, y un galápago para dar forma a la teja, un rasero para quitar el barro sobrante de la gradilla, y agua y limazo (arena fina de rambla).Tras hacer las piezas se tienden en mantillos (superficies planas donde se colocan las piezas y se dejan secar al sol).Una vez seca se coloca en el horno. La clave de la colocación es dejar claves o pasos de fuego, para cocerlas bien y, una vez lleno de piezas, se cierran las puertas con barro y paja para que no se escape el calor de la cocción. El material para alimentar la cocción del horno es orujo o hueso de aceituna.Tras varios días de cocción se deja enfriar una semana y se abre el portero cerrado con barro y paja. Ya sólo queda la extracción del material cocido.Los pigmentos los compran preparados dependiendo del color solicitado. Se disuelven con agua, se mueven para ponerlos espesos y se procede al esmaltado de las piezas. FInalmente, otra vez se vuelven a meter al horno y se cuece de nuevo la pieza.

APRENDIZAJE

Cerámica y Alfarería Jesús Jiménez es una empresa familiar de alfareros que surgió a principios del siglo pasado, y cuyo fundador le da nombre. El trabajo artesanal del barro ha ido pasando de generación en generación hasta hoy, conservando la esencia de lo tradicional y aprovechando siempre los recursos que ofrece la tierra.La fábrica comenzó en el año 1914 pero en un lugar diferente al lugar en que está ubicada hoy. La actividad viene de la familia de sus abuelos maternos, que tenían un tejar en Benalúa de Guadix (padre de su abuelo) y una cantarería y tejar en Guadix (padre de su abuela). Su abuelo se trasladó a Guadix, donde compró las tierras donde ahora se instala la fábrica.Construyó un horno vertical pequeño para cántaros, ladrillo, losa y teja y, con el tiempo, al aumentar la demanda de cántaros, construyeron otro aún más grande (sobre 40.000 piezas). Al seguir aumentando la demanda de piezas hicieron uno de 60.000 piezas vertical y con el paso del tiempo hizo el proyecto de un horno continuo de 130.000 piezas, que no llegó a ver concluido, porque fallece en mayo del año 1960.La ejecución del horno se lleva a cabo por los cuatro hijos y posteriormente su madre se queda al frente del negocio junto con su marido, porque los hermanos se marchan a buscar trabajo a distintos lugares. Jorge es el penúltimo de once hermanos y tras la jubilación de su padre se hace cargo del negocio familiar, algo que viene desarrollando desde la infancia.
