DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA ACTIVIDAD REALIZADA

La empresa destaca en la fabricación de piezas de terracota artesanas, en barro blando, tanto en formatos normales como de gran formato, pudiendo llegar en cuadrado hasta 90x90cm y en piezas rectangulares hasta los 200 cm de largo. Puede tratarse de la única empresa que hace estas piezas de gran formato. Realizan además revestimientos, pavimentos, alféizares, huellas de escalera, dovelas para arcos y cualquier pieza cerámica especial para obra nueva o para restauración de edificios antiguos, como iglesias, monasterios, etc.Las técnicas utilizadas para estas piezas son básicamente las mismas que se utilizaran tradicionalmente en la Península, incluyendo árabes y romanos: arcillas en barro blando, moldes de madera para ayudar a conformar la pieza y la mano del artesano para fabricarlas. A continuación, se deja secar el tiempo necesario para poder manejar la pieza y así conformar las distintas cargas en el horno según el tipo o tipos de piezas que se vayan a cocer en cada hornada, cuya temperatura ronda los 1000º C.
También están especializados en azulejos totalmente artesanos tanto para obras de nueva realización como para restauraciones de piezas antiguas. La técnica utilizada para conformar el bizcocho de los azulejos (nombre que se la da al azulejo cuando está cocido y listo para poder ser esmaltado o decorado) es la misma que para la terracota. Una vez se tiene el bizcocho en la medida de la pieza que se tenga que realizar, se esmalta a brocha pieza a pieza en el color que proceda, o se decora con el dibujo según el diseño solicitado. Para el azulejo decorado se utilizan las técnicas de Pizano (decoración sobre cubierta de esmalte a mano alzada con pincel), cuerda seca, decoración bajo cubierta y, en casos excepcionales, serigrafía a mano. La técnica que se utilice en cada pieza dependerá del resultado que se esté buscando.La principal actualización que han introducido en el proceso de fabricación es el diseño por ordenador, es decir, diseñan digitalmente los proyectos a escala, bien sean de pavimentos, revestimientos o fachadas, para obtener las piezas a partir de ellos. Con esta forma de trabajo se evitan imprevistos surgidos por la falta de planificación y desarrollo previos.Cada uno de sus trabajos implica el trato directo con el cliente, visitando el lugar físico de cada proyecto para comentar las posibilidades, aconsejar en la medida de lo posible y realizar los planos hasta conseguir el resultado deseado.

APRENDIZAJE

Es la cuarta generación de una familia de Guadalcanal (Sevilla) dedicada a este oficio ininterrumpidamente desde 1900, si bien esta última generación ha introducido en Cerámica Mudéjar Extremeña S.L. la azulejería, ya que las anteriores generaciones de la familia nunca la trabajaron. El principal maestro fue Joaquín Llano Calderón, que murió con 66 años en 1991, padre del actual propietario. A él estuvo unido en el trabajo desde los once años hasta su fallecimiento.
