Su aprendizaje fue por herencia familiar, desde muy pequeño, ya que la tradición de su familia en el oficio es muy extensa: su padre, Pascual Alba Bujeda, su abuelo, Gregorio Alba Arrazola, su bisabuelo, Domingo Alba Alaba, y su tatarabuelo, Joaquín Alba, trabajaron el hierro toda su vida en la localidad de Checa.
