DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA ACTIVIDAD REALIZADA

José Enrique trabaja fundiendo campanas siguiendo una larga tradición familiar que se remonta a 1630, año en el que fundaron el taller en Arcos de Condesa (Pontevedra).Para realizar las campanas, tan sólo utiliza tres materiales: barro, leña y bronce.Lo primero que hace son las plantillas de madera para realizar los moldes. Para obtener las medidas de las mismas, utiliza un escantillón que mide en arrobas galegas, una antigua medida tradicional de Galicia. Estas plantillas se colocan en un eje que funciona a modo de torno, en el que se indica la medida del diámetro de la campana que se va a realizar y por último, se cortan con una sierra.Para la ejecución de cada campana José Enrique realiza tres moldes. El primero es un molde interior llamado macho que tiene la forma de la campana por dentro. Después superpone un segundo molde con la forma y grueso de la campana hecho de barro y al que añade un poco de cera, donde realiza la ornamentación: dibujos, cruces… Este molde sirve para hacer el tercero, que realiza por capas de barro muy finas. Este último molde es el negativo. En él se va grabando la ornamentación gracias a la cera del molde anterior. Una vez terminados los tres moldes, los separa y desecha el intermedio, colocando el último molde encima del primero. Lleva la estructura completa del molde a pie de horno, lo entierra con capas de tierra de 15-20 cm que va apisonando y repite hasta cubrir el molde. La tierra sirve para contener el molde y para que el bronce se enfríe lentamente. El horno de leña que utiliza, fabricado por él mismo, tiene capacidad para fundir tres toneladas de bronce. Por último, llena el molde de bronce fundido y lo deja secar entre dos y cinco días en función del tamaño de la campana.Hay diferentes tipos de campana: el esquilón, cuya altura es mucho mayor a su diámetro, que emite muy buen sonido de cerca, pero éste no avanza muy lejos; la campana achatada, que se escucha muy bien desde lejos, pero no a pie de torre; y, por último, la campana entretallas, que es una campana intermedia entre las dos anteriores en todas sus características. Las campanas que José Enrique realiza son de este tipo.José Enrique solía trabajar con su padre, quien se ha jubilado recientemente. Ahora trabaja en solitario. No solo han realizado trabajos en territorio nacional, sino que algunas de sus campanas han tenido como destino países como Senegal, México o Argentina.
