DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA ACTIVIDAD REALIZADA

Juan Andrés trabaja la piedra de Villamayor para realizar escultura y elabora también piezas de cantería para la construcción.Utiliza las técnicas que se emplean desde antaño en este oficio, que no han variado en gran medida desde hace siglos. Para trabajar, se procede primero al corte de la piedra. Antiguamente éste se hacía con rozas, a mano, aunque hoy en día se ha visto facilitado con el uso de las radiales y de maquinaria. Los planos, después de trabajarlos con escoda o radial, se terminan con el carril o tren. El tipo de piedra lo marca la finura y la calidad de dureza y la herramienta utilizada para el acabado depende a su vez de estas características: cinceles, escodas, trinchantes, punteros…La mayor actualización en el sistema productivo es la aparición de algunas máquinas de corte, que evitan que se produzca polvo, el cual perjudica a los trabajadores, llegando a generar incluso enfermedades como la silicosis. Por otra parte, el avance en los sistemas de corte ha provocado que los espesores con los que se trabaja la piedra puedan ser cada vez menores.Ha desarrollado su trabajo como restaurador de monumentos en piedra de Villamayor, oficial de 1ª en Cantería, trabajando en la talla en madera y en escultura en piedra de Villamayor y granito, esculpiendo escudos y retratos, y realizando ornamentación variada tanto en piedra, como en madera o cualquier otro material, como en bronce.
