DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA ACTIVIDAD REALIZADA

En la finca denominada «Sa Teulada», en Mallorca, se han extraído desde un tiempo inmemorial sillares para la construcción de casas y toda clase de edificios y monumentos, ya que antiguamente era el único material disponible.La piedra local se llama «marés» que es una piedra arenisca, formada por sedimentos marinos, en zonas de la isla que estaban sumergidas bajo el agua y que después emergieron y se petrificaron. De hecho, en la piedra se encuentran múltiples fósiles marinos.Esta empresa recibe pedidos de las islas de Mallorca, Menorca e Ibiza, de empresas dedicadas a la construcción y restauración de la edificación tradicional de las islas en piedra de marés.Antiguamente, y hasta los años 50 del siglo pasado, la extracción se hacía a mano. Han encontrado en el archivo Parroquial la referencia de un pedido a esta cantera para la construcción de la Iglesia de Santa Margalida del 11 de marzo de 1762 en el que la unidad es la docena y la moneda Lliures, Sous, y Diners (cada Lliure tenía 20 Sous, y cada Sou 12 Diners). En los años 50, unos herreros, los Hermanos Rigo, construyeron de modo artesano las primeras máquinas para la extracción de sillares que hoy en día, modernizadas y actualizadas, pero partiendo de esa idea primitiva, se siguen usando en la industria artesanal.
