La empresa Mosaics Torra se dedica a la fabricación de baldosas hidráulicas siguiendo sistemas puramente tradicionales. Continúan utilizando la misma metodología de producción que ya utilizaron numerosos arquitectos y artistas de renombre como Gaudí, Doménech i Montaner y Puig i Cadafalch.El modo de fabricación tradicional de las baldosas hidráulicas hace que su producción sea más lenta que procedimientos más industriales. Para conseguir este producto se utilizan tanto herramientas originales como fieles reproducciones de las utilizadas antiguamente para la fabricación de estos suelos. En sus instalaciones se fabrican más de 300 modelos distintos con diferentes formas y dibujos.La fabricación de una baldosa hidráulica empieza por el amasado de los diferentes componentes junto al color. A continuación se encaja la “trepa” en un molde, afianzándola sobre su base de acero perfectamente nivelada. Seguidamente se forma una capa al verter las «pastinas» de color en los orificios según el diseño a efectuar. La segunda capa está constituida por una mezcla a partes iguales de arena muy fina (impalpable) y cemento que, aplicada sobre la capa anterior, absorbe su humedad. Posteriormente se aplica la capa inferior, también denominada «capa de gros», formada por una mezcla de arena y cemento en proporción 4 a 1. De este modo, la baldosa queda perfectamente acabada en su parte inferior, asegurando una buena adherencia con el mortero para su colocación en obra. Finalmente la baldosa hidráulica es debidamente prensada para su extracción final del molde.Las baldosas hidráulicas recién fabricadas se trasladan a un almacén de curado, donde permanecen durante 24 horas. Seguidamente se pasan a una cámara donde se las rocía con agua a efecto de aportarles la humedad necesaria para asegurar un fraguado perfecto.Una vez alcanzado el grado óptimo de curado, los mosaicos hidráulicos son empaquetados, protegiéndose debidamente y trasladándose al almacén donde permanecerán por un periodo mínimo de 28 días.

DOCENCIA

El conocimiento de esta técnica tradicional fue adquirido a través de artesanos que transmitieron sus conocimientos a nuevas generaciones y este proceso se continúa en la propia fábrica en la actualidad.
