DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA ACTIVIDAD REALIZADA

Ovidi es artesano especialista en la fabricación de las tradicionales barreras de acebuche o ullastre, barandillas, aperos para el campo y norias. Utiliza las técnicas tradicionales que caracterizan a estos elementos menorquines y que son garantía de calidad y durabilidad.Ovidi utiliza madera autóctona que obtiene él mismo, llevando a cabo la tala de la madera en las lunas viejas de enero y agosto, ya que la madera posee una mayor calidad cuando se obtiene en estas épocas. El secado al natural de la madera dura un mínimo de 18 meses.Durante el proceso de fabricación utiliza maquinaria básica introducida en el oficio a mediados del siglo pasado. Entre ellas, herramientas como la sierra de cinta, el cepillo eléctrico o el escopleador. También utiliza herramientas manuales tradicionales como la azuela, la escofina o los formones, sobre todo en el ajustado de las uniones, que siempre realiza con la azuela.Su trabajo ha sido premiado en varias ocasiones y posee la Carta de Mestre Artesà.

APRENDIZAJE

Ovidi aprendió el oficio en el taller del maestro Pedro Pons, donde estuvo aprendiendo durante nueve años.
