DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA ACTIVIDAD REALIZADA

Los tipos de trabajo que realiza son los de la casi desaparecida «carpintería de lo blanco», la reproducción de antiguas piezas de carpintería y su restauración, tratando de evitar la desaparición de la carpintería popular, tan rica y humilde, que forma parte de nuestra historia.
Las técnicas utilizadas son las más ortodoxas del oficio, llegando al trazado de piezas como antes se realizaban, con cartabón y compás, y tratando con todo ello de intentar mantener las claves de este oficio.Los procesos son los mismos que en todos los tratados de carpintería se reflejan: elección de madera, aserrado, labrado, trazado, escopleado, espigado, moldurado, y armado de la pieza; en este proceso se realizan técnicas de ensamble ya casi desaparecidas como las molduras realizadas a «boquilla» o «jaquiloca» cuarterones «engargolados», escopleaduras abocinadas, espigas ciegas y todo el sinfín de técnicas y vocabulario que por desgracia ya muy pocos pueden entender y mucho menos realizar.En cuanto a los procesos de trabajo, al llevar a cabo actualizaciones, siempre se parte de la base del trazado primitivo. Por ejemplo, se puede utilizar una sierra manual para realizar una boquilla en una moldura, pero también hace falta la utilización de la sierra de disco, así como, aunque se utiliza una gubia fina para la terminación de una pieza de talla o torno, para realizar su desbaste inicial se utiliza maquinaria. No dispone de calibradoras de lija, ni seccionadoras, ni canteadoras, ni toda la gran maquinaria que hay relacionada con la industria de la madera, su contacto con la madera es más «íntimo», permitiendo con ello desarrollar una mayor creatividad, desde que selecciona un trozo de árbol para realizar, por ejemplo, una mesa, empieza un proceso de «química» entre la madera, la mesa y el artesano: tener contacto con la madera, serrarla, labrarla, cortarla, lijarla, oler su aroma, y terminar dando forma a la mesa.

APRENDIZAJE

Empezó a trabajar como aprendiz en 1978 en el taller de Santiago Calonge (sirva de reseña que nació en 1898), con quien aprendió los trazados de carpintería antiguos (aunque para él no había otros). Luego se formó en distintos talleres, pero la experiencia que se adquiría en ellos no cuadraba con lo que Pablo buscaba del oficio, así que en 1989 se instaló en su propio taller de torneado de la madera.Su formación como restaurador se forjó a base de visitar distintos talleres a nivel comarcal. En aquellos años la labor de restauración no estaba muy consolidada y era difícil encontrar talleres o personas dedicadas a ello. Si encontraba a un restaurador, no conocían las técnicas ni oficio de trabajar la madera, se dedicaban simplemente a decapar madera; si encontraba a un artesano que trabajara la madera, no sabía restaurar, así que conjugando estos dos campos aprendió el oficio.Estudió los estilos y la historia de la carpintería y del mueble a base de libros y tratados de autores como Luis Feduchi, Diego López de Arenas, J. Claret Rubira, Fray Andrés de San Miguel, el Marqués de Lozoya y otros autores.
