DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA ACTIVIDAD REALIZADA

Pedro Antonio Fernández Díaz era pintor antes de comenzar a trabajar en su actual oficio como tallista en piedra, al que lleva dedicándose más de treinta años. Sus conocimientos sobre el dibujo a lápiz y la pintura al óleo le han permitido realizar diseños para esculturas que se pueden encontrar en lugares tan emblemáticos como el Parque del Retiro o en alguna de las fachadas del Banco de España, ambos en Madrid.En su trabajo combina el uso de herramienta eléctrica y tradicional. Para realizar sus obras, cuando se trata de una reproducción, lo primero que Pedro hace es recopilar toda la información disponible sobre la obra, valiéndose de fotografías o modelos en barro o plastilina. Realiza entonces un modelo del gran bloque de piedra utilizando una radial con disco de diamante de 30 cm, para cortar y quitar piedra, y una maceta, con la que va extrayendo los trozos sobrantes. Transcurren a continuación muchos días dedicados al desbaste, el diseño y el trabajo sobre la propia pieza, sobre la que se van dibujando progresivamente los motivos a labrar. Comienza el modelado con una radial pequeña de 12 cm de disco, trompillo o martillo neumático, gradinas y cinceles. Para el acabado de la obra, utiliza diferentes lijas para conseguir distintas texturas.La mayoría de sus trabajos son en piedra caliza, aunque también ha trabajado el mármol de Macael, el granito y piedras areniscas.Casi todos sus trabajos han sido realizados para diversas empresas de construcción con piedra.

APRENDIZAJE

Autodidacta. Antes de ser tallista, se dedicaba a pintar a lápiz y óleo, habilidades que le ayudaron mucho y adquirir sus conocimientos de talla en piedra.
