DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA ACTIVIDAD REALIZADA

Rodrigo G. Xiráldez (Pedra Stone Design) realiza trabajos siguiendo el buen hacer de los antepasados, empleando solamente métodos tradicionales. En su taller, reconocido por Artesanía de Galicia, trabaja principalmente el granito, realizando obras de imaginería, cantería y restauración para particulares de toda España. Además, lleva a cabo una línea de diseño funcional y reciclaje en granito, como encargos privados de escultura.Al enfrentarse a un trabajo nuevo de cantería, de escultura o de restauración se documenta previamente sobre el proyecto. Pasa entonces al dibujo, el modelado, las maquetas, las plantillas y a seleccionar la piedra correctamente. Todo ello marca la diferencia a la hora de conseguir un acabado fiel con el elemento arquitectónico a construir o rehabilitar o de realizar una escultura que transmita lo inicialmente buscado.A la hora de reconocer una obra realizada a mano las imperfecciones, la vibración de la talla son inconfundibles, haciendo el producto único e irrepetible. En todos sus proyectos están presentes las herramientas de trabajo manual: el puntero, la maza redonda, el compás, la escuadra… obteniendo así obras de autor, en las que la maquinaria está al servicio del oficio.Pedra también apuesta por la puesta en valor del oficio tradicional por medio de la innovación que siempre ha sido propia del mismo, con diseños que aprovechan al máximo el sólido capaz y colecciones 100% recicladas, realizadas con sobrantes y desperdicios pertenecientes a la industria extractiva y transformadora del granito.

APRENDIZAJE

De la mano del pintor Mingos Teixeira comenzó su andadura entre lápices y pinceles, exponiendo en el ciclo “Mostrarte” (Ayuntamiento de Vigo) y posteriormente en “Artesolidaria” (Casa das Artes. Vigo). La pintura y el dibujo fueron unos elementos clave para la posterior formación de Rodrigo Xiráldez.Movido por la curiosidad inició su formación como Cantero y posteriormente Maestro Cantero en la “Escola de Cantería de Poio”, Pontevedra, algo que a día de hoy se ha convertido en su forma de vida.Mientras estudiaba cantería compartió taller y se formó como aprendiz con el escultor José Rocha, especializado en retratos y escultura monumental en bronce.
