DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA ACTIVIDAD REALIZADA

Diego López forma parte de Tierra Cocida, una empresa familiar de segunda generación que produce de forma artesanal diferentes piezas de barro cocido empleadas en la construcción. Son piezas destinadas principalmente a los acabados de las edificiaciones, como baldosas, ladrillos y tejas de distintos formatos.Para la elaboración de las piezas con técnicas tradicionales tan solo emplean tierra arcillosa, agua y fuego. La arcilla procede de sus propias canteras locales, próximas a la localidad de Valentín (Murcia), en el popularmente conocido como Valle del Barro, donde se sitúa su fábrica. Esta materia prima se mezcla con agua hasta lograr la plasticidad deseada, que permite introducir la masa en los diferentes moldes para cada tipo de pieza. A continuación se dejan dejan secar las piezas cuidando evitar el contacto húmedo entre ellas y, a medida que se secan, se lijan los bordes y cantos que lo precisen para eliminar las rebabas. Por último, se procede al acabado de las piezas, que se introducen en el horno para su cocción a 1000ºC.Los hornos empleados en el proceso son también construcciones tradicionales, hornos del tipo denominado moruno situados en las instalaciones de Tierra Cocida y que llevan en uso desde la fundación de la fábrica.Entre los productos que realizan se encuentran las baldosas de exterior y rústicas, los ladrillos de arcilla, el ladrillo de Valentín y otros productos de arcilla artesanales.
